In-ground Swimming Pool Builder

Owning a swimming pool is an amazing luxury, but the construction process can be a nightmare. Once you have decided that you are ready for a pool, there are some obvious questions to ask, such as how much will it cost, and how long will it take, and there are some not so obvious questions that will need answers. These questions may not sound like important issues now, but once you have the permanent addition to your backyard, they will be something you will be glad you thought of first.

  1. Why do I want a pool? This is one of the most important questions to ask yourself when building your backyard retreat; it will directly affect almost every aspect of your project. Do you want the pool to entertain? If so, a larger pool deck area allows room for tables, chairs, summer kitchen, etc. Do you want the pool for exercise? If this is your reason, make your pool longer or add a swim in place jet, exercise bar, or aqua cycle. Is your new pool for aesthetics? In this case, start the design process from inside your home by focusing on the rooms with views that will deliver the most dramatic effects.
  2. Will I want to cool my pool? The idea of cooling down the water in a swimming pool may sound strange to most people, but here in Florida, we know the Sunshine State can get blistering hot. Therefore, if your backyard gets a lot of direct sunlight, you may want to consider a heat pump with a reversible cycle that will keep the water in your pool cool and refreshing all summer long.
  3. How deep should my pool be? The average swimming pool these days is 3 to 5 feet. Is that what is best for you? When relaxing in a swimming pool, you do not want to be treading water the entire time, so maximize usable pool space by keeping the depth of you pool in line with your height. Therefore, If you are taller than average, you may want the pool’s deep end and shallow end to be a bit deeper. Also consider this, if you have children or you want a “sun shelf”, extend the shallow end farther. The kids will have more area to play and the sun shelf will provide you a space for your lounge chair in the pool.
  4. Do I want to be able to walk all the way around my pool? If you have a smaller backyard and want to maximize your pool deck area, you may want to move the pool as far away from the house as you can. This concept gives you the freedom to take the unused pool deck area that would have been behind the pool, and move it to the front, giving you several more feet of room.
  5. Can a pool be safe? This may be the most important question to ask when building a swimming pool. Sure, swimming pools in Florida are safer now than they have ever been thanks to the introduction of stricter main drain cover testing and anti-entrapment devices, but you shouldn’t stop there, especially if you have small children. There are several devices like “baby barrier” fencing and pool covers that are inexpensive and could save a life.

So whatever your reason for wanting a swimming pool, you can be sure that the addition of one will be a decision that will add many great moments and perhaps even several, less stressful, years to your life. The memories you make with your family will last a lifetime, and your family’s laughter will be heard throughout your neighborhood. Now all you have to do is find a licensed, reputable swimming pool builder and plan your swimming pool party!
